I found these two unrelated safety measures within a few metres of each other, while down in London the other day.

It pleases me that a desire to insulate the pedestrian from danger underfoot, or indeed, to just avoid litigation, can result in two such pleasing visual interventions. In both cases pragmatism and entropy are held in some kind of tension, as indeed, are randomness and geometry.
Of course, as I bent to photograph them, everyone else just hurried past - getting on with their day without giving a second glance.
